On 15th June 2018, the Chinese Embassy in Gaborone hosted a Chinese Culture Open Day on the occasion of the Day of the African Child. More than 100 Botswana students and teachers were invited to the Embassy and enjoyed a unique experience about Chinese traditional culture and its national heritages.

The Open Day was full of colorful activities meant for enhancing cultural exchanges as well as demonstrating China-Botswana traditional friendship. Visiting students toured around the Embassy, learned basic Chinese language and Chinese Kungfu, gained experience of using chopsticks and writing calligraphy, and had a taste of Chinese cuisine. Visitors were also able to get knowledge of the responsibilities of the Ambassador and the functions of the Embassy in promoting bilateral friendship.

His Excellency Dr. Zhao Yanbo, Chinese Ambassador to Botswana, concluded the event with inspiring words to the students as he shared with them the importance of cultural exchanges between two countries and peoples. "The most solid basis for China-Botswana ties lies in a deeper mutual understanding between the two peoples. All of you could become little ambassadors to thrive and spread the seed of friendship between China and Botswana", said the Ambassador. He also emphasized that China is willing to make joint efforts with Botswana to further promote China-Botswana friendship and cooperation.
