On July 13, 2018, State Councilor and Foreign Minister Wang Yi held talks in Beijing with visiting Minister of International Affairs and Cooperation Unity Dow of Botswana.

Wang Yi said that China and Botswana have understood and supported each other for a long time, and the development of bilateral relations at present has showed important opportunities. The Chinese side is willing to make joint efforts with the Botswanian side to well implement the consensus reached by President Xi Jinping and President Mokgweetsi Eric Keabetswe Masisi, strengthen high-level exchanges, enhance political mutual trust, respect and accommodate each other's core interests, expand mutually beneficial cooperation and people-to-people and cultural exchanges, and intensify cooperation in international and regional affairs, in a bid to strive to break new ground for the development of China-Botswana relations. Sharing similar historical experiences and same common development tasks, China and Africa have been a community of shared future that goes through thick and thin together. As a developing country, China will firmly stand together with Africa and the vast number of developing countries, no matter how the international landscape changes. The Beijing Summit of the Forum on China-Africa Cooperation (FOCAC) to be held this September will be of milestone significance in the development of China-Africa relations. China welcomes Botswana to actively participate in the cooperation of the Belt and Road Initiative and welcomes Botswana to take part in the first China International Import Expo to be held in Shanghai this November.

Unity Dow said that China is a sincere friend of Botswana that has provided a lot of sincere support and assistance for the economic and social development of Botswana for a long time, for which the Botswanian side expresses deep appreciation and gratitude. President Mokgweetsi Eric Keabetswe Masisi and the government of Botswana consider developing the relations with China as a priority of the external strategy, and will firmly adhere to the one-China policy and support President Xi Jinping's important idea of building a community with a shared future for mankind and the Belt and Road Initiative. The Botswanian side has always committed itself to safeguarding multilateralism. President Mokgweetsi Eric Keabetswe Masisi is looking forward to coming to China this September to attend the FOCAC Beijing Summit and make efforts for the success of the summit. Speaking highly of the tremendous achievements China has made in its development, Botswana stands ready to strengthen exchanges of experience in state governance and administration and promote cooperation between the two countries in various fields for more outcomes, so as to better benefit the two countries and the two peoples.
