On 12th March, 2020, Chinese Ambassador H.E. Dr. Zhao Yanbo gave an exclusive interview on Radio Botswana’s program “Foreign Window” and briefed the audience about the latest development of China's fight against COVID-19 and relevant cooperation with the international community.

Ambassador Zhao said that thanks to the Chinese people's united and arduous efforts, we have made some major progress for the current stage. In Hubei province, cities and prefectures outside Wuhan have not seen new cases for a week, with daily new confirmed cases in Wuhan trickling down to single digits. Outside Hubei, there are only new cases occasionally, all imported from overseas, which means the epidemic within China has been effectively contained and the final victory is just around the corner. With continued epidemic prevention and control efforts, Chinese enterprises are expediting resumption of work and production in an orderly manner. We believe the running of economy and society will soon get back to normal.

Ambassador Zhao said that recently, the epidemic has taken footholds in many places and is still spreading, posing a huge threat to the lives and health of people around the world, which reminded us once again that we are a community with a shared future. With the vision of a community with a shared future for mankind, China has been advocating global collective efforts in epidemic prevention and control, and conducted close cooperation with the WHO and the international community. While strengthening epidemic response at home, China had experience-sharing and exchanges with other countries, and provided medical supplies and sent medical specialists to those in need. African countries are now facing high risks of imported cases and some of them have seen confirmed cases. China will support them to the best of its capabilities, help them strengthen public health emergency response and jointly safeguard regional and global public health security.

Ambassador Zhao also answered questions on the trend of the epidemic and its impact on China’s economy and China-Botswana exchanges and cooperation.
