Notice on Requirements for Certificates of Negative Nucleic Acid and Anti-Body Blood Tests Results for China-bound Passengers
(4th November, 2020)
2020/11/04

In order to reduce cross border transmission of COVID-19, starting from 8th November, 2020, all Chinese and foreign passengers who are to fly from Botswana to China will be required to take nucleic acid and IgM anti-body tests within 48 hours before boarding the flight, and then apply for green Health Code with the 'HS' mark (for Chinese passengers, please refer to attachment 1) or certified Health Declaration Form (for foreign passengers, please refer to attachment 2). The specific requirements are as follows:

I. Test Requirements

1) Passengers going to China via connecting flights must first take nucleic acid and IgM anti-body tests in Botswana within 48 hours (calculated from the date of sample collection instead of the date of result, same below) before boarding their flight to the transit country, and then take both tests again in the transit country within 48 hours before boarding the direct flight to China. Passengers must apply at the Chinese embassies/consulates in both Botswana and transit country for green Health Code with the "HS" mark or certified Health Declaration Form with certificates of negative results of both tests.

2) In addition to the previously designated National Health Laboratory and medical institutions for nucleic acid tests, Diagnofirm Medical Laboratories(Tel:00267-3950007)is currently identified by the Ministry of Health and Wellness of Botswana and the Chinese Embassy in Botswana for both nucleic acid and IgM anti-body tests. Change of designated institutions will be updated timely.

II. Chinese Passengers Applying for Green Health Code with the 'HS' Mark

Chinese passengers must use mobile phone to upload to the WeChat Health Code App the photos of their negative nucleic acid and IgM anti-body tests results along with their passport information page, which will be examined and verified by the concerned Chinese embassy/consulates. Then they will get the green Health Code with the 'HS' mark. Please make sure to board the flight within the validity period of the green Health Code and cooperate with the staff of the airlines who checks the green Health Code.

III. Foreign Passengers Applying for the Health Declaration Form

1) Foreign passengers must email the scanned copies of their negative nucleic acid and IgM anti-body tests results along with their passport information page and the signed Health Declaration Form to the email of the Chinese Embassy in Botswana at consulate_bwa@mfa.gov.cn. Please visit the website of the Chinese embassy/consulates in the transit country for their requirements and email addresses.

2) The concerned Chinese embassy/consulates will, after due examination and verification, email the scanned copy of the stamped Health Declaration Form back to the applicants. Passengers should then print out their Health Declaration Form and take the form along with the test certificates to the airport for boarding.

3) Please make sure to board the flight (including any connecting flights) within the validity period of the Health Declaration Form and cooperate with the staff of the airlines who checks the said Health Declaration Form.

IV. Reminders:

1) All passengers intending to fly to China are required to read through this notice carefully and abide by it accordingly. If you could not complete the COVID-19 nucleic acid and IgM anti-body tests and get the negative results in time, or fail to obtain the green Health Code with "HS" mark or the stamped Health Declaration Form, it means that currently you do not yet meet the relevant requirements for boarding. In such case, you have to reschedule your itinerary.

2) If you must go to China via connecting flights, please check the transit country's entry regulations and its COVID-19 nucleic acid and IgM anti-body tests requirements beforehand. Failure to enter the transit country or meet the requirements regarding the tests could result in being stranded and heightened infection risks.

3) Airlines may require you to present the original certificates of your nucleic acid and IgM anti-body tests to verify your green Health Code or Health Declaration Form. Therefore, please always remember to carry the original certificates with you.

4) Should you provide any false information or certificate, you may encounter setbacks in your journey, and may be held accountable and liable legally.
