Full text of the condolence message:

I suddenly heard that the Former President of Botswana, H.E. Sir Ketumile Masire passed away while I had still been in the fond memory of meeting him two weeks ago. The news makes me painfully sad and my heart bitter.

He was a great statesman. He contributed himself to the founding and development of the Republic of Botswana as well as to the peace and stability of Africa. He was a good friend of China and Chinese people. He made important contributions to the development of China-Botswana friendly and cooperative relations. His untimely passing is a great loss to both Botswana and China.

I wish to extend my deepest condolences to his passing and sincere sympathy to his family, the people of Botswana and the government of Botswana.

May his soul rest in eternal peace.

H.E. Zhao Yanbo

Chinese Ambassador to Botswana
