On 3rd April 2020, Chinese Ambassador H.E. Dr. Zhao Yanbo attended a virtual meeting of diplomatic corps in Botswana on COVID-19 response and briefed the participants on China’s cooperation with the international community to combat the pandemic.

Ambassador Zhao said that though the epidemic has been largely contained in China, its global spread has posed new challenges to China's prevention and control work. While overcoming difficulties at home, China has been actively cooperating with the international community including Botswana by sharing information and experience and offering medical supplies. China has established the Knowledge Center for China's Experiences in Response to COVID-19, held virtual technical conferences with more than 100 countries, and provided emergency medical supplies including testing kits, masks, PPEs and thermometers to over 80 countries. China will continue to strengthen cooperation with all parties, and stands ready to strengthen public health capacities of Botswana and other African countries.

The meeting was chaired by Mr. Zia Choudhury, the UN Resident Coordinator in Botswana. Hon. Dr. Lemogang Kwape, Minister of Health and Wellness of Botswana and representatives from the diplomatic community in Gaborone attended the meeting.
