|China Values Sino-Botswana Ruling Party Relations|
China had paid particular attention to the development of Sino-Botswana friendly relations and was willing to see more extensive cooperation, said Wu Guanzheng, visiting senior official of the Communist Party of China (CPC), on 5 September.
Wu Guanzheng, a member of the Standing Committee of the Political Bureau of the CPC's Central Committee, conveyed Chinese President Hu Jintao's cordial greetings and best wishes to Botswana's President Festus Mogae when they met Tuesday morning. He is also Secretary of the Central Commission for Discipline Inspection of the CPC, said that since the two countries set up diplomatic ties 30 years ago, bilateral relations had been developing very smoothly. Exchanges in political, economic, trade and other fields had been expanding increasingly.
He said that China was willing to work together with Botswana to push bilateral exchanges and cooperation to a higher level in a variety of areas. He also appreciated Botswana's persistent stance in support of the one-China policy and its support to China in international affairs in general. Talking about Sino-African relations, Wu said that fruitful results had been achieved in the course of their countries' 50 year relationship. In January this year, the Chinese government published documents on China's policies toward Africa, highlighting ways of consolidating comprehensive cooperation between China and Africa, Wu said. Those measures embodied China's sincere friendship toward African countries and provided a good opportunity for further development of Sino-African cooperation, he said, adding that the Chinese side was happy to work together with African countries to open a new stage of friendly cooperation.
For his part, Mogae said that for years the two countries had maintained very friendly relations. Since the establishment of diplomatic ties, the two countries had made significant achievements in political, economic, cultural and other fields, especially in infrastructure construction, human resources development, agriculture and medical care. He also expressed thanks for China's support and assistance in the economic and social development of Botswana, which had contributed significantly to Botswana's state development and improvement of people's living standard. The president highly appreciated China's efforts in developing relations with African countries and was looking forward to participating in the Sino-African cooperation forum to be held in China this autumn.
