Botswana Government Voices Its Opposition to Taiwan's Membership of the UN

The Embassy of the People's Republic of China held consultations with the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation of the Republic of Botswana on 24th July, 2007 relating to the recent developments in cross-straits relations and Taiwan's intension to hold a referendum on its application for membership of the United Nations as a separate and sovereign entity from the Motherland.

The Ministry of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation of the Republic Botswana reaffirmed the Government commitment to the One-China Policy and expressed Botswana's Solidarity with the Government and people of the People's Republic of China in the opposition of Taiwan's membership of the United Nations.

The Embassy of the People's Republic of China expressed its profound appreciation for Botswana's support and solidarity.
