University of Botswana and the Office of Chinese Language Council International Reached Agreement on Establishment of the Confucius Institute

    On 23rd October 2007, Zhao Guocheng, the Deputy Director General of the Office of Chinese Language Council International (Hanban) signed an agreement in Beijing on the establishment of the Confucius Institute with University of Botswana(UB) Prof.Youngman, the Vice Deputy Chancellor of UB who was visiting China and accompanied by Ms. N. Majinda, Ambassador of Botswana to China.

    Mr. Zhao pointed out that, Botswana is an important African country and Hanban supports the Chinese language teaching in Botswana. The establishment of the Confucius Institute in UB will be of great significance in the enhancement of mutual understanding and friendship between China and Botswana.

    Prof. Youngman said that, with the facilitation and support of the Chinese Embassy in Botswana, efforts in establishing the Confucius Institute in Botswana begin to bear fruits. UB will try its best to make the Confucius Institute a success and thus further strengthen the cultural and educational exchanges between Botswana and China.
