Multi-purpose youth centre in the offing

GABORONE - The stage is set for the construction of a $9,5 million Multi Purpose Youth Centre between Madirelo Training Centre and Gaborone Dam.

This follows the signing of a construction contract by Acting Permanent Secretary in the Ministry of Youth, Sport and Culture, Ms Kelebogile Kgabi and officials of China Zhongding International Engineering Company of China.

The 6263 square metre project, located in an 18 hectare piece of land, is funded by a soft loan secured from China.

Construction is scheduled to take 21 months. Ms Kgabi said at the signing ceremony that the project will keep young people busy and away from wayward behaviours.

also, she said it is intended to mould the youth into responsible citizens, noting that government is committed to assist the youth to develop themselves for the benefit of the country and their own.

She expressed the hope that since all the ground work had been done, the project will proceed according to plan so that it is completed in time and within budget.

The centre will largely be for recreational purposes, consisting of a multi- purpose hall, roller-skating ramps as well as the viewing and game arcade.

It will also be complete with a cultural centre, an open air auditorium, an Olympic size swimming pool, out-door all weather sports grounds and skills training facilities covering metal work, library and computer centre, among others.

It is anticipated that the completion of the project will provide additional opportunities for education, entertainment and empowerment of the youth. Senior Engineer of Zhongding International Engineering Company, Mr Zhao Guisheng, said they are glad to be participating in the realization of the project.

Mr Guisheng said they are geared towards building a quality centre. BOPA
