Mophane Primary Gets P20000

A delegation from the Chinese City Nantong donated P20000 to Mophane Primary School in Gaborone on 22 May.

The delegation was in Gaborone last week to further cement its twinning arrangement with the Gaborone City Council.

The visit follows the one undertaken by the Mayor of Gaborone, Mr Henry Mothei sometimes last year when he visited the Chinese City.

Mr Mothei said in an interview that the 10-year agreement will promote cooperation in the fields of education, health and trade, adding that Botswana will explore ways in which China could help small entrepreneurs.

For his part, the head of delegation, Mr Guo Lajun said their visit to Gaborone is to further strengthen relations between the two cities, especially in the field of education.

In a similar gesture, last year China entered into an agreement with the University of Botswana and pledged to fund the establishment of the Confucius Institute, the Chinese language teaching institute at UB.

Mr Guo said the visit was meant to familiarize them with Gaborone City Council in order to find more collaboration opportunities involving the two cities.

During the visit, the delegation met with the Ministry of Trade and Industry, BEDIA and BOCCIM and paid a courtesy call on the Ministry of Local Government.

The delegation also visited the National Museum, Tsholofelo Infrastructural Project and the wastewater treatment plant.
