|Magang welcomes Chinese business community|
GABORONE- The Chairman of Phakalane Golf Resort, Mr Lesang Magang has applauded the Chinese business community for choosing Botswana as their investment home.
Speaking at the first 2009 Botswana Huaren Golf Estate at the weekend, Mr Magang said China is the largest growth market and investor in Africa and that the Chinese have shown interest in identifying Botswana’s culture and development.
Huaren is a Chinese word for “Chinese”.
Mr Magang said Botswana has a lot of ambitious experts who can copy from China and that China allows Batswana to grow “to be a big fish in a small pond”.
“Batswana of today are a highly educated population because of their ambitious businessmen who have plans to do business with the world.”
“And I want to assure you that we will play our part to forge links with the Chinese community to expand our businesses in Botswana,” he said.
Mr Magang noted that the Chinese business community gives the business community in Botswana courage to also do business in their country.
“We need to have more links with the Chinese in order to double our efforts in business if this kind of arrangement continues to exist between our two countries.
Our ambitions is to copy from you what the real business I sin the world and I want to call on Batswana no to fear competition when they want to expand their businesses,” Mr Magang said.
He said China, with a golfer population of about 2.3 million while the world golfers population is 56 million, adding that China is a good destination for golfers and Botswana to expand its economy.
In his welcome remarks, the Secretary General of Botswana Huaren Golf Association, Mr Nan Miles said the diversification of Botswana’s economy means a lot of millionaires to be gained.
He said golf is a wonderful sport that needs perseverance, determination and an elastic patience if one has to be an international golfer, adding that Batswana should take golf seriously in order to compete internationally.
Mr Miles said the idean behind golf is not just money, but golf is also a game that contributes to making friends through events such as golf tournaments in order to understand one another.
The golfers were drawn from 35 companies, which include Standard Chartered, Dulux, Steelbase, Fairway, Barloworld and Madarin Furniture, among.
Rodney Buta from Zimbots(Zimbabwe and Botswana)team emerged the overall champion with 46 points.
Winners won themselves some set of golf bags and electric appliances such as fans and heaters.
