Chinese Embassy Sponsors Drawing Classes

The Embassy of the People's Republic of China has donated P20,000 towards the programmes of Thapong Visual Arts Centre.

The Centre has been soliciting financial assistance to carry out its programmes especially capacity building, which has been lagging behind.

According to Thapong Visual Arts Centre coordinator, Reginald Bakwena, the Chinese Embassy has been helping Thapong with donations for the past three years.

“Their donations have gone a long way in motivating local artists to further develop their artistic skills”, he said, adding that the relationship has also promoted the interaction of the artists at the centre.

“We appreciate the Chinese Embassy for collaborating with Thapong in developing a culture of art appreciation in Botswana. The Embassy’s initiative has also helped our young upcoming artists to learn from professionals available at the centre”, he said.

Chinese Embassy spokesperson Zhou Zhigang said as a way of promoting the “Buy Botswana” initiative, the Embassy will also purchase art works from Thapong and other arts centers in the future.

Thapong’s main objective is to develop, promote and discover artistic talent in Botswana.
