On October 15, 2021, Director-General of the Department of African Affairs of the Foreign Ministry Wu Peng and Permanent Secretary of Burundi's Foreign Ministry Ferdinand BASHIKAKO held the fifth round of political consultation via video link. The two sides exchanged views on China-Burundi relations and practical cooperation, as well as the meeting of the Forum on China-Africa Cooperation (FOCAC) and regional issues of common concern.

Wu Peng said, Burundi is China's all-weather friend and all-round cooperative partner. China appreciates Burundi's strong support on issues concerning China's core interests and major concerns. Wu said that he is willing to enhance communication and coordination with Burundi's foreign ministry, jointly implement the important consensus reached by the two heads of state during their phone conversation in March this year, and push forward the new development of China-Burundi relations. Wu also introduced the preparations for the Eighth Ministerial Conference of FOCAC.

BASHIKAKO spoke highly of the Burundi-China relations, and thanked China for its longstanding and significant contributions to Burundi's economic and social development, especially for China's recent standing up and speaking for Burundi on various multilateral occasions. BASHIKAKO welcomes the opening of the new meeting of FOCAC, and Burundi stands ready to enhance communication with China to make good preparations and ensure the success of the meeting.
