Assistant Foreign Minister Chen Xiaodong Attends Opening Ceremony of 12th Senior Officials Meeting of the Forum on China-Africa Cooperation

On November 24, 2017, the 12th Senior Officials Meeting of the Forum on China-Africa Cooperation (FOCAC) opened in Beijing. Co-chair of the Chinese Follow-up Committee of FOCAC and Assistant Foreign Minister Chen Xiaodong attended and addressed the opening ceremony. Nearly 300 people, including senior officials and representatives from China and 52 African countries, the African Union Commission and other FOCAC members as well as observers of some African regional organizations, attended the meeting.

Assistant Foreign Minister Chen Xiaodong expressed that since the successful convening of the FOCAC Johannesburg Summit, President Xi Jinping has made important instructions on the implementation of the outcomes of the Johannesburg Summit for many times, and conducted in-depth exchanges with leaders of African countries. China and Africa have intensified integration, and pushed forward the smooth implementation of the outcomes of the Johannesburg Summit, which vigorously promoted Africa's independent and sustainable development and expanded as well as deepened China-Africa cooperation, further showing China and Africa's firm determination of win-win cooperation and common development to the international community. The 19th National Congress of the Communist Party of China was successfully convened last month. Socialism with Chinese characteristics has entered a new era and the major country diplomacy with Chinese characteristics has started a new journey, which bring more opportunities and open up broader prospects for China-Africa cooperation.

Assistant Foreign Minister Chen Xiaodong pointed out that the transformation and upgrade of China's development will inject greater impetus into Africa's development, and China's commitment to building a new type of international relations and a community with a shared future for mankind will provide more support to Africa for playing a greater role in international stage, and China's development experience and path will broaden horizon and choices for developing countries including Africa to move toward modernization. China is willing to make joint efforts with Africa to carry forward China-Africa traditional friendship, and build China-Africa comprehensive strategic cooperative partnership with richer connotation. Next, it is suggested that both sides should focus on the following works: first, comprehensively and deeply implement the outcomes of the FOCAC Johannesburg Summit; second, deepen strategic docking, optimize cooperative mode and promote common development; third, continue enhancing coordination and cooperation in international and regional affairs.

After the opening ceremony, Assistant Foreign Minister Chen Xiaodong respectively met at request with heads of delegations from Tanzania, Egypt, Malawi and Libya, exchanging views on bilateral relations, China-Africa cooperation and topics of common interests.
