Special Representative of the Chinese Government on African Affairs Xu Jinghu Attends Celebration Marking the 50th Anniversary of Independence of Mauritius

From March 12 to 14, 2018, Special Representative of the Chinese Government on African Affairs Xu Jinghu, on behalf of China, attended the celebration marking the 50th anniversary of independence of Mauritius held in Port Louis, capital of Mauritius.

On the sidelines of the celebration, Special Representative Xu Jinghu met with Prime Minister Pravind Jugnauth of Mauritius and conveyed President Xi Jinping's oral message to Pravind Jugnauth. Xu Jinghu warmly congratulated Mauritius on the 50th anniversary of its independence, and commended remarkable achievements of Mauritius made in economic and social development since its independence. She expressed that China attaches great importance to the development of bilateral relations and will make joint efforts with Mauritius to constantly elevate China-Mauritius friendly and mutually beneficial cooperation to new highs.

Prime Minister Pravind Jugnauth expressed his sincere thanks for President Xi Jinping's oral message, and held that China's designation of Special Representative Xu Jinghu to attend the celebration fully demonstrated the high importance China has attached to developing bilateral relations. Speaking positively of the development progress China-Mauritius relations have achieved in recent years, Pravind Jugnauth expressed that China is an important partner of Mauritius in its development and construction, and the Mauritian side stands ready to deepen exchanges and cooperation in various fields with China so as to promote bilateral relations for more in-depth development.

Special Representative Xu Jinghu also met with Minister of Foreign Affairs, Regional Integration and International Trade Vishnu Lutchmeenaraidoo of Mauritius. Both sides exchanged views on China-Mauritius relations, the Forum on China-Africa Cooperation as well as international and regional issues of common concern.

Special Representative Xu Jinghu gave a joint interview to the national television of Mauritius and other local mainstream media.
