Wang Yi Holds Talks with Foreign Minister Souef Mohamed El Amine of Comoros

On July 9, 2018, State Councilor and Foreign Minister Wang Yi held talks in Beijing with Foreign Minister Souef Mohamed El Amine of Comoros who was in China for the 8th Ministerial Meeting of the China-Arab States Cooperation Forum (CASCF).

Wang Yi expressed that China is one of the first countries to recognize the independence of Comoros, as well as the first country to establish diplomatic relations with Comoros. The Chinese side advocates that all countries are equal members of the international community, regardless of their size, strength, or wealth. China is willing to, together with Comoros, continuously enhance political mutual trust, advance practical cooperation, and coordinate closely in international affairs, so as to become a model of equal treatment, solidarity and cooperation among big and small countries. China stands ready to well utilize the two platforms, namely the CASCF and the Forum on China-Africa Cooperation (FOCAC), and strive to translate the political advantage of bilateral traditional friendship into achievements from practical cooperation that will benefit the people of China and Comoros. The Chinese side is willing to attach more importance to the cooperation demands of small and medium-sized countries, continue to provide support for Comoros to achieve sustainable self-development within China's capacity, and continue to understand and support each other with Comoros on issues concerning respective core interests and major concerns, and firmly safeguard the common interests of both countries.

Souef Mohamed El Amine expressed that Comoros has always attached high importance to developing its relations with China, and highly appreciates China's stance on and contributions to safeguarding world peace and promoting international cooperation. Comoros always upholds the one-China principle, and supports China in realizing complete national reunification at an early date. Comoros thanks China's long-term support and assistance to its development, and stands ready to further strengthen cooperation with China in such areas as infrastructure construction and human resources development. Comoros has always actively participated in the CASCF and the FOCAC, and is willing to make contributions to promoting cooperation between Arab states and China as well as Africa-China cooperation under the framework of the two forums.
