Special Representative of the Chinese Government on African Affairs Xu Jinghu Attends the Gala Dinner Marking the 100th Birthday of Nelson Mandela

On September 21, 2018, Special Representative of the Chinese Government on African Affairs Xu Jinghu attended and addressed at invitation the gala dinner marking the 100th birthday of Nelson Mandela held by the South African Embassy in China.

Special Representative Xu Jinghu spoke highly of the extraordinary life of Nelson Mandela and his important contributions to the development of China-South Africa and China-Africa relations. Special Representative Xu Jinghu expressed that the Chinese side is willing to, together with the South African side, well implement the series of important consensus reached by President Xi Jinping and President Cyril Ramaphosa during their mutual visits within this year and the outcomes from the Beijing Summit of the Forum on China-Africa Cooperation (FOCAC), so as to constantly enrich the connotation of China-South Africa comprehensive strategic partnership.

Guest of Honor of the South African side and Minister of Energy Jeff Radebe expressed that Nelson Mandela, as a great man of a century, had played a crucial role in the establishment of the new South Africa, and his spirit has been guiding the South Africa's national construction and development to this day. The South African side is willing to, together with the Chinese side, enhance cooperation within such frameworks as the FOCAC and the BRICS to promote common development.
