Assistant Foreign Minister Chen Xiaodong Holds a Group Meeting with Diplomatic Envoys to China from the Member States of the Intergovernmental Authority on Development (IGAD)

On December 13, 2019, Assistant Foreign Minister Chen Xiaodong held a group meeting with diplomatic envoys to China from the member states of the Intergovernmental Authority on Development (IGAD).

Chen Xiaodong spoke positively the IGAD’s important role in promoting unity and cooperation among member states and mediating regional hotspot issues. He expressed, the Chinese side attaches importance to carrying out cooperation with the IGAD, and will support regional integration process as always. We will promote practical cooperation with regional countries under the framework of the joint construction of the Belt and Road Initiative and the Beijing Summit of the Forum on China-Africa Cooperation, and work tirelessly to facilitate regional peace, security and development.

On behalf of the IGAD, Ethiopian Ambassador to China Teshome Toga Chanaka expressed his heartfelt thanks to the Chinese side for the long-term support and help for the IGAD and its member states, and hoped to deepen cooperation with the Chinese side in peace, security, infrastructure construction, investment, people-to-people and cultural engagement and other areas. Other diplomatic envoys speak positively of the contributions the Chinese side has made to boosting regional peace and development and look forward to benefitting more from the mutually beneficial cooperation with China.
