Assistant Foreign Minister Deng Li Attends the Opening Ceremony of the Fifth China-Africa Youth Festival
2020/10/26

On October 26, 2020, the Fifth China-Africa Youth Festival opened in Beijing. Chairman of China Soong Ching Ling Foundation Wang Jiarui attended the opening ceremony and delivered a speech. Assistant Foreign Minister Deng Li also addressed the ceremony. The event was attended by over 200 people, including representatives of Chinese and African youths, African envoys to China, and representatives of African students studying in China.

Deng Li stated in his speech that the Festival coincides with the 20th anniversary of the Forum on China-Africa Cooperation (FOCAC). With "Pursuing the Dreams of the Youth and Launching a New Era of China-Africa Relations - Celebration of the 20th Anniversary of the FOCAC by Chinese and African Youths" as its theme, it meets the practical needs of the development of the Forum, and the sincere wishes of the young people from both sides to contribute to China-Africa friendship.

Deng Li pointed out that during the past 20 years since the founding of the FOCAC, China-Africa relations have developed from "a new type of partnership" to "a new type of strategic partnership", and then to "a comprehensive strategic and cooperative partnership". Both sides are witnessing strengthened mutual political trust, fruitful and practical cooperation, unprecedented people-to-people exchanges, and closer international collaboration.

Deng Li emphasized that facing the world's profound changes unseen in a century, the aspirations of the Chinese and African youths are closely related to our times and the development of China-Africa relations. Building China-Africa community with a shared future under the new circumstances calls for the youths to shoulder their responsibilities. As the participants and contributors of China-Africa cooperation, youths are also the witnesses and beneficiaries of this cooperation, and the inheritors and driving force of China-Africa relations as well. Deng Li hopes that Chinese and African youths will keep forging ahead with concerted efforts to contribute to the development of the FOCAC and China-Africa relations, and to inject new impetus into the development of comprehensive strategic and cooperative partnership between China and Africa.

As an established activity program under the FOCAC framework, China-Africa Youth Festival is an important platform for young people from China and African countries to exchange views, deepen mutual understanding, learn from each other and enhance friendship. The Festival of this year was hosted by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and organized by China Soong Ching Ling Foundation.
