Assistant Foreign Minister Deng Li Meets with New South African Ambassador to China Siyabonga Cyprian Cwele

On February 3, 2021, Assistant Foreign Minister Deng Li met with new South African Ambassador to China Siyabonga Cyprian Cwele at the latter's request.

When welcoming Siyabonga Cyprian Cwele to assume his new post, Deng Li said that the China-South Africa comprehensive strategic partnership has gained more global influence, with frequent high-level exchanges, fruitful practical cooperation and close collaboration in international affairs between the two countries. China is willing to work with South Africa to overcome the pandemic's impact and promote bilateral exchanges and cooperation in various fields, pushing China-South Africa relations to a new level.

Siyabonga Cyprian Cwele congratulated on the Communist Party of China's 100th anniversary and China's great achievements of fighting the pandemic. He said that the government of South Africa attaches great importance to its relations with China and firmly adheres to the one-China principle. He thanked China for its strong support for his country's pandemic response and said South Africa is willing to join hands with China to make greater progress in South Africa-China relations.

The two sides also exchanged in-depth views on international and regional issues of common concern.
