Ambassador Wang Xuefeng Presents Letter of Credence to President of the Republic of Botswana

On 7th May, 2021, H.E. Mr. Wang Xuefeng, Ambassador-designate of the People's Republic of China to the Republic of Botswana, presented the Letter of Credence to H.E. Dr. Mokgweetsi E. K. Masisi, President of the Republic of Botswana.

 

 

Ambassador Wang conveyed the cordial greetings from Chinese President Xi Jinping to President Masisi as well as the best wishes from the government and people of China to the government and people of Botswana. Ambassador Wang said that since China and Botswana established diplomatic ties 46 years ago, the development of bilateral relations has maintained a good momentum with deepening mutual trust and extensive cooperation. President Masisi's state visit to China and attendance at the FOCAC Beijing Summit in 2018 opened a new chapter for the friendly and cooperative relations between the two countries. In the face of the COVID-19 pandemic, China and Botswana have been helping each other and jointly combating the virus, with the friendship between the two peoples further consolidated and elevated. Ambassador Wang said that as China-Botswana relations are standing at a new starting point with promising prospects, he is honored to be appointed Ambassador of China to Botswana and will work with the Botswana side so as to contribute to the traditional friendship and practical cooperation between the two countries.

 

 

President Masisi warmly welcomed Ambassador Wang to his new post and asked Ambassador Wang to convey his cordial greetings and best wishes to Chinese President Xi Jinping. President Masisi spoke highly of the traditional friendship and fruitful cooperation between the two countries and happily recalled his state visit to China and attendance at the FOCAC Beijing Summit in 2018. President Masisi said that Botswana cherishes its friendship with China, firmly adheres to the one-China policy and sincerely appreciates China's long-term support for Botswana's economic and social development, especially the technical, material and vaccine assistance at the critical moment of Botswana's fight against COVID-19. Botswana looks forward to further deepening practical cooperation with China in various fields such as economy and trade, infrastructure, health care and human resources. With the joint efforts of the two sides, China-Botswana relations will surely achieve new development.

 

 

Before presenting the Letter of Credence, Ambassador Wang inspected the Presidential Guard of Honor. Botswana official media including Botswana Television covered the ceremony.

Ambassador Wang arrived in Gaborone, capital of Botswana, on 8th April. He presented the copy of the Letter of Credence to Hon. Dr. Lemogang Kwape, Minister of International Affairs and Cooperation of Botswana on 16th April.
