Chinese Ambassador Zhao Attended the Official Opening Ceremony of Francistown's Thapama Interchange

    On March 10, 2018, Chinese Ambassador Zhao Yanbo attended the Official Opening Ceremony of Francistown’s Thapama Interchange at the invitation of Botswana government.

 

 

  President Lt. Gen. Dr Seretse Khama Ian Khama of Botswana delivered a speech at the Opening Ceremony. He praised the Thapama Interchange Project as “well-done”. The construction of the Interchange, he added, would ease the flow of traffic and facilitate the trade between Botswana and other SADC countries such as Zambia and Zimbabwe.The “Spaghetti” as the interchange is called, he noted, would yield great benefits and open business opportunities in Francistown and beyond.

 

 

  In his speech at the Opening Ceremony, the Minister of Transport and Communications of Botswana, Mr.Kitso Mokaila said he observed that the project was delivered on time and within costs.

 

 

  The Thapama Interchange Project is the first in Botswana and the most important part of the Upgrade Program of the Tonato-Francistown Dual Carriage Way. It took three years to complete and employed 500 people per month and was built by China Railway Seventh Group Co., Ltd. In February, 2017, Ambassador Zhao paid an inspection visit to the project and urged the Chinese contractor to construct the project of high quality.
