Chinese Embassy in Botswana Holds National Day Reception

On the evening of 24th September 2019, Chinese Ambassador to Botswana H.E. Dr. Zhao Yanbo and his wife Mrs. Mao Xuehong held the National Day Reception at Gaborone International Convention Center celebrating the 70th anniversary of the founding of the People's Republic of China. H.E. Festus Mogae, Former President of the Republic of Botswana, Hon. Shaw Kgathi, Acting Minister of International Affairs and Cooperation and senior government officials, members of parliament, heads of diplomatic missions and representatives from the Chinese community and about 500 guests attended the reception. Chinese Ambassador H.E. Dr. Zhao Yanbo and Acting Minister of International Affairs and Cooperation Hon. Shaw Kgathi delivered remarks.



Ambassador Zhao said that under the strong leadership of the Communist Party of China, the Chinese people started from scratch, faced every challenge and overcame all difficulties to build the people’s republic brick by brick in the past 70 years. During this process, China’s economy has developed miraculously and become the the second largest economy and one of the most dynamic markets in the world. Chinese people’s livelihood has seen historic improvement and China’s relations with the world has also experienced significant changes. China has embraced globalization with reform and opening-up, and offered Chinese solutions to global challenges with the proposal of building a community with a shared future for mankind and the Belt and Road Initiative.



Ambassador Zhao highlighted that there are also things that remain unchanged during the process of China’s development. China’s pursuit of happiness for its people and rejuvenation for the nation remains unchanged, China’s profound friendship with Africa remains unchanged, and China’s commitment to a better world remains unchanged. Ambassador Zhao pointed out that next year marks the 45th anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic relations between China and Botswana. China will continue to uphold its Africa policy of sincerity, concrete results, amity and good faith, strengthen exchange and cooperation with Botswana within the framework of the Belt and Road Initiative, and accelerate the implementation of the eight major initiatives of FOCAC Beijing summit so as to enrich the bilateral relations and partnership with more tangible outcomes.



Acting Minister of International Affairs and Cooperation Hon. Shaw Kgathi congratulated on the 70th anniversary of the founding of the People's Republic of China and commended the social and economic achievements of China. He pointed out that as the second largest economy, China has become a key player in the global political and trading system, and its contributions to poverty reduction, social inclusion and prosperity serve as an inspiration to Botswana.


He also recalled that the state visit by H.E. President Masisi to China has created a conducive environment for more bilateral interactions on a wide range of issues of mutual interest, and the relationship between the two countries has grown from strength to strength as demonstrated by the tangible results realized thus far. He believed when Botswana and China celebrate 45 years of diplomatic relations, the two countries shall have achieved a lot more in terms of collaboration.






A photo exhibition of China’s achievements in the past seven decades was held during the reception, and videos on China’s 70 years’ development were also played. In the meantime, a vote for the logo designs commemorating the 45th anniversary of China-Botswana diplomatic relations was organized, which attracted great attention and positive feedback. Guests spoke highly of the development of China and China-Botswana relations. The reception concluded in a friendly and joyful atmosphere and attracted a number of local media.
