On 30th March 2020, Chinese Ambassador H.E. Dr. Zhao Yanbo gave a telephone interview to Duma FM during the evening rush hour, briefing the audience on China’s material assistance to Botswana to fight the COVID-19 pandemic.

Ambassador Zhao said that fighting the pandemic calls for mutual support and cooperation among countries around the world. During the most difficult period of China’s fight against COVID-19, Botswana rendered China valuable support. As the pandemic has broken out in many African countries and posed rising challenges to Botswana, the Chinese government and China’s Jack Ma Foundation donated emergency medical supplies such as testing kits, masks and PPE to Botswana to support the latter’s prevention and control efforts, which demonstrated profound friendship between the two countries and their firm resolve to jointly defeat the virus. The medical supplies, which arrived in Gaborone last week, will help boost Botswana’s public health capacities. And China will continue to work with Botswana to safeguard regional and global public health security.

Ambassador Zhao also shared China’s experience to fight the disease such as suspension of people’s movement, the 4-earlys approach (early detection, early reporting, early isolation) and the establishment of makeshift hospitals, and answered questions regarding China’s progress in COVID-19 prevention and control and status of Botswana students in Wuhan.

This is the fourth interview Ambassador Zhao gave to Duma FM on the fight against COVID-19.
