Outgoing Ambassador Jiang Commended For His Job Well Done

Outgoing Ambassador Jiang Zhengyun met with H. E. Mr. Festus Mogea, President of Botswana, on 8th March 2007 before his departure upon completion of his mission. President Mogae commended Ambassador Jiang for his contribution to the promotion of ties between China and Botswana during his tenure spanning more than 2 years. Though feeling regretful of Ambassador's leaving, the President spoke highly of the development and cooperative relations of the two countries. The Forum on China-Africa Cooperation was also highlighted by the President during their meeting as he said Botswana wished to further enhance the bilateral cooperation through implementation of decisions of the Beijing Summit of the Forum.

 

Hon. Lt. Gen. Mompati Merafhe, Minister of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation, also held talks with Amb. Jiang and bid a farewell dinner in his honor that evening. Senior officials including cabinet ministers, permanent secretaries and other officials, joined with representatives from the diplomatic missions, international organizations, the Chinese community in Botswana for the dinner. Minister Merafhe in his address reviewed some big events in the bilateral relationship during the past two years and paid tribute to Amb. Jiang as the diplomatic representative of China for his great job and devotion. He expressed the profound gratitude of the Botswana Government for the aid from the Chinese Government. He believed that the new Ambassador will build on the solid foundation. Minister Merafhe also extended the best wishes to Amb. Jiang and his wife, hoping they have wonderful lives after retirement.

    Recently Amb. Jiang has had farewell meetings with Minister of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation, Minister of State President, Minster of Youth, Sports and Culture, Minister of Education, Minister of Works and Transport and Minister of Communications, Science and Technology. He also called on the Speaker and Deputy Speaker of the National Assembly. All of them expressed their satisfactions at the status quo of the relations between China and Botswana. Amb. Jiang was praised for what he has done for fulfilling his mission. They committed themselves to fully cooperating with and supporting the new Chinese Ambassador.

    In response, Amb. Jiang thanked the Botswana Government and people for their support, help and cooperation during his 2-year tenure in Botswana. He said Botswana will always be his second hometown and he had readied himself to do more for the Sino-Africa, Sino-Botswana friendship.
