Wu Bangguo Meets with President of the Democratic Republic of the Congo KABILA

On March 22, 2005, Chairman Wu Bangguo of the National People's Congress (NPC) met with visiting President of the Democratic Republic of the Congo (DRC) Josephe KABILA in the Great Hall of the People.

Wu said that the people of China and the DRC enjoy a profound friendship. In recent years, the cooperation between the two countries has demonstrated good momentum of development. The Chinese government appreciates the DRC government for adhering to the one-China stance. China values the traditional friendship between the two countries very much and expects to reinforce the friendly exchanges with the DRC at all levels and expand bilateral cooperation in the political, economic and social fields in a bid to realize common development and benefit the two peoples.

KABILA said that the DRC and China enjoy a long-term friendship. The DRC attaches great importance to developing relations with China, and the purpose of my visit is to further promote the development of the friendly and cooperative relations between the two countries. The DRC firmly adheres to the one-China policy, would like to extend congratulations to the NPC on the adoption of the Anti-Secession Law and believes that

Wu briefed the guests about the 3rd Session of the 10th NPC and noted that the NPC is willing to conduct friendly exchanges and cooperation with the Parliament of the DRC, learn from each other in the development of the democratic and legal systems, strengthen the friendship and trust between the two peoples, enrich the connotation of bilateral friendly and cooperative relations and jointly promote the progress of bilateral ties.

KABILA introduced the peace process and economic reconstruction of the DRC. He said that the domestic situation of the DRC is moving in a stable direction, which has created favorable conditions for the two countries to conduct mutually beneficial cooperation in all fields. The DRC hopes to see enhanced exchanges and cooperation in various forms between its Parliament and the NPC.
