Chairman Wu Bangguo of the Standing Committee of the National People's Congress (NPC) met with Zimbabwean President Mugabe in the Great Hall of the People

On July 27, 2005, Chairman Wu Bangguo of the Standing Committee of the National People's Congress (NPC) met with Zimbabwean President Robert Gabriel Mugabe in the Great Hall of the People.

Wu said that over the 25 years since the establishment of diplomatic ties between China and Zimbabwe the bilateral relations have been progressing healthily and smoothly. The two sides have conducted sincere and effective cooperation in such fields as politics, economy, culture, education and health and extended support to each other in both international and regional affairs. China is satisfied with the development of bilateral ties and expects to continue working with Zimbabwe to constantly expand and deepen the bilateral friendly exchanges and economic and trade cooperation. Wu expressed admiration and appreciation for Zimbabwe's consistent adherence to the one-China policy.

The NPC of China and the Parliament of Zimbabwe have been maintaining sound exchanges and cooperation, which is an important part of the bilateral relations and injects energy into the progress of bilateral ties, noted Wu. The NPC of China expects to strengthen the friendly exchanges with the Parliament of Zimbabwe at all levels and play an active role in increasing the friendship between the two peoples and promoting the bilateral cooperation in various fields in a bid to push for the comprehensive development of China-Zimbabwe relations.

Wu also introduced the socioeconomic progress and the construction of democracy and legal system of China to the guest.

Mugabe said that the political and economic relations between Zimbabwe and China enjoy a solid foundation and develop steadily. The two countries support each other in international affairs. Zimbabwe attaches great importance to the relations with China, supports the exchanges between the legislative bodies of the two countries and will make further efforts to push forward the bilateral cooperation in various fields and consolidate and deepen the traditional friendship.
