Director-General of the Department of African Affairs of the Foreign Ministry Wu Peng Attends China-Africa Webinar on Solidarity against COVID-19

On August 11, 2020, Wu Peng, Secretary General of the Chinese Follow-up Committee of the Forum on China-Africa Cooperation (FOCAC) and Director-General of the Department of African Affairs of the Foreign Ministry, attended China-Africa Webinar on solidarity against COVID-19 upon invitation and delivered a speech.

Wu Peng introduced the implementation of the Extraordinary China-Africa Summit on Solidarity against COVID-19 held in this June, and said the Chinese side will continue to support Africa in fighting the COVID-19 epidemic. In the mean time, the Chinese side is willing to work with the African side to plan practical cooperation in the next phase, help work and production resumption and sustainable development in Africa.

African representatives thanked the Chinese government and all circles in China for helping Africa fight the epidemic. They commended the Extraordinary China-Africa Summit on Solidarity against COVID-19's achievements for effectively enhancing the African side's anti-epidemic capability and economic recovery, spoke positively of the unbreakable brotherhood between Africa and China, and expressed their confidence in greater development of bilateral cooperation.

The seminar was co-organized by United Nations Economic Commission for Africa and Mission of the People's Republic of China to the African Union. Representatives from institutions including the African Union Commission, Africa Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, Chinese Center for Disease Control and Prevention, China Institutes of Contemporary International Relations, China-Africa Institute, China Institute of International Studies, and Institute of African Studies at Zhejiang Normal University were present.
