On December 24, 2020, Director-General of the Department of African Affairs of the Foreign Ministry Wu Peng and Burundi's Foreign Minister Assistant Ferdinand Bashikako held the fourth round of political consultations between the two countries' foreign ministries via video link. The two sides exchanged views on China-Burundi relations and practical cooperation, the meetings of the Forum on China-Africa Cooperation (FOCAC) and regional issues of common concern.

Wu Peng said, Burundi is an all-weather friend and all-round partner of China. He thanked Burundi for its strong support on issues involving China's core interests and major concerns, and expressed the willingness of China's Ministry of Foreign Affairs to maintain regular communication and close cooperation with the Burundi's Foreign Ministry on issues of common concern, to implement the outcomes of the FOCAC Beijing Summit and the Extraordinary China-Africa Summit on Solidarity Against COVID-19, and to promote new development of friendly and cooperative relations between the two countries. Wu also introduced the 14th Senior Officials Meeting of the FOCAC.

Bashikako spoke highly of the Burundi-China relations and thanked China for its long-standing and important contribution to his country's economic and social development, especially for its recent support to remove Burundi from the UN Security Council's agenda. Bashikako praised the pragmatism and efficiency of the FOCAC, and expressed the willingness of his country to step up communication with China and to further promote greater development of Burundi-China and Africa-China relations.
