On October 15, 2020, Director-General of the Department of African Affairs of the Foreign Ministry Wu Peng met with Jacques Pellet, Special Envoy of the President and Head of the Regional Delegation for East-Asia of the International Committee of the Red Cross.

Wu Peng introduced the achievements of China-Africa pragmatic cooperation and Chinese assistance to Africa. He highly commended ICRC's humanitarian aids to Africa and said China is willing to enhance communication and work with ICRC to help in the peace and development of Africa. China respects the wills of African countries and is open to discussion with international organizations, including ICRC, on cooperation in Africa.

Jacques Pellet extended high appreciation for China's helps in Africa's fight against the pandemic. He said China-Africa cooperation is an effective support for the economic and social development of Africa. ICRC and China are mutually complementary in terms of humanitarian aids and should enhance coordination in African affairs, share cooperation experiences and join hands to help improve the wellbeing of African people.
